Scented candles, if done right, can transform a whole shelf and subtly fill a room with a fragrance (beats some sticks in a square glass!). They can turn a bath into an experience and also make failsafe gifts. But it's hard to find good ones. I adore my Clement & Claude candle on my living room mantle but I wanted a woodier scent for my kitchen that is housed in something neutral and classy looking. I find a lot of the scented candles have notes of vanilla (ick) or are overly sweet, then if I do find a scent I love the packaging looks a bit twee or hipster. So when I spotted these candles at Freight (made by them) I knew I had to have one.
The candle comes in a beautifully clean white ceramic pot with the candle name and info on a lovely sticker on one side, and the Freight logo is on the ceramic on the other. The font and design is slick and modern without being 'trendy'. The lid is also ceramic and in a choice of white or grey and you can just pop it back on to extinguish instead of blowing the candle out. The candles are soy wax and the burn time is approx 55 hours.
I went for the vetiver and oak moss scent as it's woody and masculine but they also have a rosemary and wild flowers option which would work so well for a kitchen too - Adele tells me they are working on two new scents too so watch that space. When burning the scent is subtle and not at all overpowering.
So many candles seem to have problems burning where the wick disappears into the wax, I'm sure it's hard to get over that but Freight seem to have succeeded - it burns with a steady flame that never struggles to burn when re-lit.
